The NexDock “dummy” laptop has been upgraded with a better screen and touchpad.

NexDock has released the sixth generation of its “brainless laptop.” The device is designed to work with Samsung devices that support DeX mode, other Android devices, and portable PCs, turning them into full-fledged work devices.

NexDock looks like a regular laptop: 14-inch screen, keyboard, touchpad, speakers, battery, and a set of ports. However, there is no computing platform inside — all the work is done by the connected device, and NexDock acts only as a screen and a convenient tool for printing.

The main upgrade compared to the previous generation is the new 16:10 touch panel with a resolution of 1920x1200, brightness up to 400 nits, and 100% sRGB coverage. The screen is also more comfortable for long periods of use thanks to a blue light filter.

The touchpad, which was a weak point in previous models, has been redesigned from scratch. NexDock promises normal gesture recognition and stable performance in Android, Windows, Linux, and SteamOS. The sound has also been improved: two 2-watt speakers are installed at the bottom of the case. The built-in 38 Wh battery lasts for about 6-7 hours of operation and can be used to charge a connected smartphone via USB Type-C.

The NexDock 6 costs $229 including taxes and duties, but shipping is charged separately.
