HUAWEI has announced the release of the Mate X7 foldable smartphone outside of China. This compact device unfolds into a small 8-inch tablet with an advanced set of cameras.

The company drew on 1,600 years of Chinese brocade manufacturing tradition when creating this new product. The body is made of nanofiber and is available in white brocade, while the faux leather versions come in black and red.

The model features a top-of-the-line second-generation Red Maple camera system, including a 50 MP main module with a variable f/1.49–4.0 aperture, a 50 MP telephoto lens with 3.5x optical zoom, a 40 MP ultra-wide-angle camera, and a separate multispectral module. HUAWEI emphasizes improved color reproduction and HDR capabilities: support for shooting with an exposure value of 17.5 helps preserve details in any lighting conditions.

The Mate X7 is equipped with two OLED screens: an internal 8-inch LTPO display (1–120 Hz, up to 2500 nits) and an external 6.49-inch display with a brightness of up to 3000 nits. When unfolded, the body is only 4.5 mm thick, and when folded, it is 9.5 mm thick and weighs 235 grams. It is rated IP58 and IP59 for dust and water resistance.

Performance is provided by the new Kirin 9030 Pro processor, as in the Mate 80 Pro Max. Depending on the configuration, up to 16 GB of RAM and up to 1 TB of storage are available. There is support for fast charging at 66 W via cable and 50 W over the air.
