Apple has registered a new patent dedicated to the MacBook. In it, the company revises one of the important elements of the design of branded laptops. This is about the magnets in the lid, which the developers intend to make more durable and safe. Magnets in the design of MacBook Air and MacBook Pro are necessary for reliable retention of the device in the folded position. However, as the company notes, these components create stray magnetic fields even when not in use, which can interfere with nearby bank cards and electronics. As an alternative, Apple is considering replacing conventional magnets with a voltage-controlled electromagnetic grid. This will eliminate the occurrence of magnetic fields when the laptop lid is open. In addition, such a solution, according to the company's calculations, will more reliably hold the “halves” of the laptop when folding it, preventing possible breakages when accidentally opening the device. Now the development exists only in the form of a patent - it is not known whether it will materialize in the coming years. |
